Zhong Sheng is an author about whom little public information is available; even basic biographical details remain unclear, and six of the author's works are currently known. Judging by subject matter, the writing spans politics, history, and literature: there are documentary-style works on major historical events such as Deng Xiaoping's initiative to establish special economic zones, the nationwide large-scale rehabilitation of unjust and false cases, and the decision-making, design, and construction of the Third Front, as well as biographies of figures like Sun Yat-sen and Genghis Khan, and a social novel, Escape Hunt in the Qinling Mountains. Overall, Zhong Sheng's writing leans toward historical and political subjects, using a documentary approach to trace key turning points and institutional changes in modern and contemporary China. The narrative emphasizes the sequence of events and decision-making processes, adopts a plain style, and aims to popularize historical knowledge for general readers.
