Jin Kaicheng

Jin Kaicheng (1932–2008) was a native of Wuxi, Jiangsu, and a professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Peking University. He devoted himself to the study of classical Chinese literature, literary psychology, the Chu ci, and calligraphy, and is regarded as a pioneer of literary psychology research in China. His scholarly works, such as Essays on Literary Psychology, Annotated Selections from the Chu Ci, and Studies in Qu Yuan's Poetry, have had a lasting influence in these fields. Beyond theoretical writing, he was committed to making classical poetry and traditional culture accessible to a broad readership. The library holds 116 of his works, spanning literary appreciation, classical poetry, culture, biography, and classic texts. The Zhonghua Hao Shici series, covering poetry from the pre-Qin period to modern times, guides readers to the classics through selections and annotations; his volume on the Chu ci reflects his scholarly grounding in that tradition.
