邹仲之

Zou Zhongzhi is an author about whom little public information is available, and no systematic record of his identity or life has been found. Judging from the six works held in the collection, his main focus is the translation and introduction of foreign poetry, covering representative works by major American poets: Whitman's Leaves of Grass, selections of poems by Cummings, Langston Hughes, and Carl Sandburg. He is also the author of Reflections on Shanghai, a work that turns toward prose and essays. His translations are concentrated in poetry, and his selections span several distinctive voices within the tradition of free verse, showing sustained attention to the development of modern American poetry. Overall, Zou Zhongzhi's contribution lies chiefly in introducing these poets' works to Chinese readers in relatively complete form, providing usable translations for the reading and study of foreign literature, especially English-language and American poetry.
