About the author

Xing Chao is a Chinese-language author about whom little public information is available. His work centers on classical Chinese literature, biographies of historical figures, and traditional culture. Five of his titles are included here: the two poetry collections Brilliant Starlight: Master Poets of the Tang and Song Dynasties (5 volumes) and Brilliant Starlight in the World of Poetry: A Collection of Master Poets (6 volumes), which introduce representative poets of the Tang and Song eras volume by volume; the biographies The Biography of Fan Zhongyan and The Biography of Li Shangyin, which focus respectively on the life and writings of the Song dynasty statesman Fan Zhongyan and the Tang poet Li Shangyin; and Chinese Beliefs in Omens and Traditional Observances, which touches on the concept of chenwei prophecy and folk cultural customs. These works suggest a writer who combines literary popularization with historical narrative, guiding general readers through the lives and backgrounds of poets and literati while extending into traditional beliefs and everyday customs, with subjects falling mainly into literature, biography, and culture.
