About the author

Jia Lingyi is an author about whom little public information is available. Two works are known under this name: a translation of Gone with the Wind (two volumes) and The Travelers of the Third Reich. The former belongs to world classics and the latter to world history, a fairly wide range that suggests an interest in both literary classics and historical narrative. Gone with the Wind is the major novel by the American writer Margaret Mitchell; the Chinese edition appears in two volumes, and Jia Lingyi's role is presumably that of translator, bringing this work set during the American Civil War and Reconstruction to Chinese readers. The Travelers of the Third Reich concerns historical narrative from the Nazi era, tending to present the period through people's journeys and experiences. Since birth and death dates, nationality and educational background cannot be verified, a full assessment of style and scholarly stance is difficult; yet the choice of these two titles indicates attention to the transmission of classic literature and to the narration of major twentieth-century historical events, with readability and fidelity to historical fact likely central to the translation and writing.
