About the author

Xie Yong is an author whose work focuses on modern Chinese intellectuals and the history of higher education. Publicly available biographical information about him is limited, and the existing material centers mainly on his writings. Three of his works are included here: National Southwestern Associated University and Modern Chinese Intellectuals, A Study of Qian Zhongshu's Social Circles, and Professors in Those Years. In subject matter, these works largely examine the intellectual spirit, scholarly exchanges, and educational traditions of twentieth-century Chinese academics. Through studies of the intellectual community during the National Southwestern Associated University period and of figures such as Qian Zhongshu and their social circles, they present the choices and circumstances of scholars within particular historical contexts. Professors in Those Years continues this attention to education and individual figures. His writing combines historical source work with an essayistic touch, and is commonly classified under education and essays/miscellany. His style tends toward the plain and restrained, focusing on specific people and details, offering readers an accessible entry point for understanding the situation and character of modern Chinese intellectuals.
