About the author

Xu Hun was a poet of the Tang dynasty. Concrete details of his life, official career, native place, and birth and death years are currently limited in publicly available sources and cannot be reliably verified. The library holds six of his works, including "Inscribing the Hermit Luo's Dwelling West of the Ba River," "Farewell to a Friend at Zhulin Temple," "Mourning a Theme," "After the Banquet at the Shaozhou Post Station Tower," and "Setting Out Early from Zhongyan Temple, Farewell to the Monk Qizhi." Most are occasional poems of inscription, farewell, and travel, commonly classified under classical poetry, culture, and literary appreciation. These pieces show him drawing scenes and feelings from journeys and partings, using temples, post stations, and hermits' dwellings as threads to write about human gatherings and separations and the emotions of travel, with elegant themes tinged with reflection. His works appear from time to time in later poetry anthologies and appreciation writing, offering readable examples for understanding Tang literati sociability, travel life, and temple-themed poetry, and forming the basis for his continued readership within the classical poetic tradition.
