About the author

Jiang Feng is a Chinese author whose writing centers on Japanese culture and society. Public information about him is limited, and no systematic account of his life has yet appeared. Judging from the three works held in the collection, his writing spans cultural history, documentary literature, and educational observation. Among them, A Thousand Years of Ferment: A History of Japanese Tea Ceremony traces the historical development of the Japanese tea ceremony; Jiang Feng Looks at Japan: Ten Japanese Figures in the Invasion of China offers a documentary narrative built around individual figures; and Angels and Demons: Aspects of Japanese Education focuses on both the bright and dark sides of education in Japan. All three works take Japan as their subject and show an approach that combines historical research with firsthand observation. His plain prose and his habit of opening up issues through specific people and institutions make the books suitable for readers interested in Japanese culture and society.
