Cheng Wuyan is an author about whom little public information is available; details such as nationality, dates of birth and death, and educational background are not clearly recorded. Judging from the six works held in the collection, his writing focuses on the compilation and collation of local gazetteers and historical documents, including the Revised Zhaohua County Gazetteer (Qing manuscript copy), the Record of Shu Arts and Letters (draft), the Compendium of Sichuan Examination Graduates of the Present Dynasty (manuscript copy), the Wenshan County Gazetteer (Republican-era draft), and the Draft Continuation of the Qujing County Gazetteer (Republican-era draft), which concern local gazetteers, literary records, and examination data from Sichuan and Yunnan. Another work, A Brief Study of Han-Dynasty Cliff Tombs in Chongqing and Sichuan, with Notes on the Pengshan Cliff Tomb Architecture (draft), shows his interest in Han cliff tombs and local architectural remains.
