About the author

Qin Liyan is an author for whom limited public information is available; ten of his works are currently held in the collection. Judging from their subjects, his writing follows two main directions. The first is the history and gender culture of the Ming and Qing dynasties, represented by Faithful to the End: The Phenomenon of Chaste Women in the Ming and Qing Periods. The second is the historical geography and archaeological exploration of the Western Regions, including titles in the Western Regions Travel Series such as Discovering the Library Cave, From the Lop Desert to Dunhuang, Returning to Loulan, Visiting the Ancient Sites of the Tianshan Mountains, Ancient Roads and Sites of Central Asia, Surveying the Ancient Sites of the Hexi Corridor, and Ancient Sites and Roads of the Tarim Basin. These works are mostly history books that use sites, ancient roads and archaeological discoveries as their threads, combining informative content with readability for readers interested in the history and geography of the Western Regions and in Ming–Qing social culture. Ancient poetry also appears among the common categories of his works. As basic details such as dates of birth and death and nationality remain unknown, his life and scholarly background await further verification.
