王焕生

Wang Huansheng is an important Chinese translator and scholar of ancient Greek literature; public information about him is limited, and details such as his birth and death years and nationality are not clearly recorded. Judging from the eleven works held in the library, his work centers on translating Homeric epic and ancient Greek tragedy: there are multiple volume editions and an appendix of the Iliad, a seven-volume illustrated collection of Aeschylus's tragedies, and folk-literary texts such as Aesop's Fables. These translations fall under foreign literature, classical literature, and historical reading, indicating an approach based mainly on translating primary texts while also providing notes and editorial work. His prose values accuracy and readability, offering Chinese readers a fairly systematic set of texts for understanding the ancient Greek epic tradition and dramatic art, and he has had a lasting influence on the dissemination of classical literature.
