About the author

Wang Zongren (born 1939), pen name Liu Shan, is a native of Fufeng, Shaanxi. He is a contemporary Chinese military writer and essayist, honorary president of the Chinese Prose Society, and a national first-class writer. Enlisted in 1958, he has long been rooted in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, taking plateau military life and the snowy landscape as the core of his writing. His works span prose and nonfiction, with a plain and weighty style that reveals the inner world of plateau soldiers amid harsh nature and everyday garrison duty. His representative works include "The Tibetan Antelope Kneeling" and "A Military Book of Tibet," and he has received the Fifth Lu Xun Literary Prize. Eight of his works are held in the collection, including Gazing at the Kunlun Mountains, Snow of the Kunlun Mountains, Remote Hoh Xil, and Brewing in a Snow Mountain Pot. His subjects center on the Kunlun Mountains, Hoh Xil, and the Lhasa River, and also touch on literary appreciation and social fiction, showing a sustained and affectionate portrayal of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
