Wang Shouren

Wang Shouren (1472–1529), styled Bo'an and known as Yangming, was a native of Yuyao, Zhejiang, and a Ming dynasty philosopher, thinker and military figure. A jinshi of 1499, he rose to serve as Minister of War in Nanjing and Left Censor-in-Chief of the Censorate; he suppressed the rebellion of Prince Ning and was enfeoffed as the Earl of Xinjian. He is regarded as the great synthesizer of Lu–Wang School of Mind, advocating "mind is principle," "unity of knowledge and action," and "extending innate knowledge," known as Yangming learning; his writings were compiled as The Complete Works of Wang Wencheng. The library holds 12 of his works, including Instructions for Practical Living, Yangming's Instructions for Practical Living, The Complete Works of Wang Yangming, The Complete Poems of Wang Yangming, and The Complete Memorials of Wang Yangming, spanning philosophy, poetry and memorials.
