Wang Tanzhi was a figure of the Eastern Jin period, known through the book Jin Wang Tanzhi, the only work by him currently included on this site. Public information about his courtesy name, native place, dates of birth and death, and official career is limited, and the database provides no confirmed details such as nationality, so his personal history should not be filled in by conjecture. Judging from the title of the extant work, it is classified as a classic work and presumably relates to Eastern Jin history and the Wang clan, taking the form of a compiled traditional historical or literary text. Through such material readers may gain glimpses of Eastern Jin politics and gentry culture and observe how ancient texts were transmitted and compiled. Given the scarcity of sources, his writing style and literary influence cannot yet be fully assessed; readers are advised to rely on the original text, consult reliable historical reference works, and note questions of edition and authenticity rather than overinterpret.
