About the author

Wang Liyi is an author about whom little public information is available; three of her works are included in this collection. Judging from the works at hand, her writing falls mainly into two categories: social fiction and documentary literature. The representative work Weeds on the Moor belongs to social fiction and draws largely on real life and the circumstances of ordinary people; Songs of the Snowy Land tends toward documentary literature and focuses on the landscape and cultural life of the snowy plateau; The Red Star Shines on Children's Hearts: Picture Book of Red Stories from Qinghai is aimed at young readers and tells Qinghai's red stories in picture-book form. Though the three works differ in subject, they all show a concern for lived experience and local memory, combining an observation of social reality with an effort to preserve regional history, and in the children's title attempting to convey historical content through the combination of pictures and text. As her dates of birth and death, nationality, and other biographical details are not recorded, her personal history and creative background cannot yet be further introduced.
