Shen Hong

Shen Hong, whose real name is Chen Hong, was born in September 1961 in Jingzhou, Hubei. He graduated from the School of Journalism at Wuhan University and worked for many years at Shenzhen Special Zone Daily. A member of the China Collectors Association and the China Writers Association, he has long devoted himself to collecting and studying folk artifacts such as New Year pictures and bookplates, and has published more than two hundred books. His writing is rooted in folk art, especially New Year pictures, covering classic categories such as door gods, deities, beautiful women, and opera scenes, as well as Chinese stories in festival and labor motifs; his work combines documentary organization with cultural interpretation. In the twenty-eight titles held in this library, he tends to begin with specific images and trace the ethical ideas, festival customs, and aesthetic tastes they contain. His prose is plain and attentive to detail, offering general readers a systematic entry point into traditional New Year pictures and folk culture.
