About the author

Shu Cai is a poet, poetry translator and poetry educator about whom limited public information is available. Five of his works are included here, spanning personal writing, poetry education and translation. His poetry collection Sky Bends Down: Selected Poems of Shu Cai Across Four Decades covers forty years and offers a concentrated view of the evolution of his style. Twelve Poetry Lessons for Children introduces young readers to reading and writing poetry in a classroom format, reflecting his long-standing engagement with making poetry accessible. As a translator, he has rendered works such as The Injured Air and Duve's Motion and Stillness, and translated Amadou Sar's selected poems The Praying Mantis at Dawn, building a body of work in introducing foreign poetry. His writing and translation mostly engage with modern poetry, with restrained and inward-looking language that attends to feeling and experience.
