About the author

Yang Fengbin is a Chinese book author about whom limited public information is available. His research and writing focus mainly on new annotated translations of Confucian classics. Five of his works are included in the collection, among them the simplified edition of New Annotations and Translations of the Analects, New Annotations and Translations of Mencius and its second edition, and Reading the Analects This Way. These works show that he seeks to re-examine the original text beyond existing commentarial traditions, presenting the classics in language accessible to contemporary readers while retaining necessary textual notes to help them understand individual words and passages. His books are often classified under culture and Eastern philosophy and are aimed at general readers and beginners who wish to read the Analects and Mencius in depth. Overall, Yang Fengbin's writing combines close reading of texts with popularization, giving his classic translations and annotations a fairly distinct personal style.
