About the author

Yang Xiuli, about whom limited public information is available, focuses her writing on the early history of the Communist Party of China and documentary accounts of revolutionary culture. Three of her works are held in this collection. The Dawn of Heroic Women: The Rise and Fall of the CPC's First Women's School for Common People examines the founding of the Party's first school for working-class women and its practice of women's education. Red Starting Points (six-volume set) traces the historical origins of early revolutionary activities in book-series form. A Single Seal, Countless Stars: A Documentary Account of the Early Publishing Industry of the CPC follows the establishment and spread of the Party's early publishing endeavors. Drawing on archives and historical sources, her books combine documentary reliability with narrative clarity, use plain language, and attend closely to historical detail, giving them some documentary value among works on politics and revolutionary history.
