About the author

Yang Zhu is an author about whom relatively limited public information is available, and no complete biographical account has yet been found. His writing centers on the basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine and on the academic experience of the national master of Chinese medicine Liu Shangyi. Four of his works are included here: a workbook on the basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine, and three books devoted to Liu Shangyi's doctrines—one on the theory and clinical practice of treating by way of the membrane, one on introducing ulcer treatment into tumor treatment, and one compiling prefaces to Liu Shangyi's edition of the Wenbing Tiaobian. These works point in two directions: teaching support that organizes and drills basic knowledge, and the systematic exposition of clinical theories such as the membrane-based approach and the introduction of ulcer treatment into tumor treatment, together with the collation of warm-disease literature. Classified under medicine and culture, they reflect a dual emphasis on academic transmission and documentary compilation. Given the limited public records, his personal background is not elaborated here.
