About the author

Yang Mingzhi is a Chinese history writer who also writes under the pen name Yangshuo. Because public information is limited, details of his life are largely unknown, and what can be confirmed is chiefly his work in historical writing. In 2005, his book An Upright Account of the Twenty Emperors of the Tang Dynasty was published by China Youth Press; written in an accessible style, it recounts the reigns and historical assessments of the twenty Tang emperors and remains one of his representative works. He has continued to work in the field of popular history, publishing such titles as Zhang Juzheng's Lessons for Emperors: A Chinese Mirror of Power for Emperor Wanli, Zhu Yijun and Palace Schemes: The Emperor Volume. Three of his works are held in the collection, commonly classified under history reading and inspirational growth. His writing tends to focus on imperial politics and the wisdom of power, turning historical facts into popular narratives for general readers and giving him a certain influence in popular history reading.
