About the author

Yang Xunji is an author about whom limited public information survives, and little is recorded of his life. Judging from the five works held in the collection, his writing covers several fields: Wu Zhong Gu Yu and Su Tan lean toward local customs and miscellaneous observations, written in plain, note-style prose; Liao Xiao Shi belongs to historical writing, recounting the history of the Liao dynasty in a compact and clearly organized form. Taken together, these works show an author attentive both to local records and everyday observations and to historical narrative, with a concise, practical style free of embellishment. His books are classified under literary appreciation, classic works, prose miscellany, and Eastern philosophy, suggesting that readers approach his writings across literary, historical, and intellectual lines. As his birth and death years, native place, and official career cannot be confirmed, no inferences are made here; this note introduces only the subjects and manner of his surviving works for readers' reference.
