杨寄林

Yang Jilin is an author about whom limited public information is available. To date, twelve works appear under his name, commonly classified as history reading, with the representative work being the eleven-volume edition of the Tongjian Jishi Benmo and its individual volumes. Judging from the titles currently known, his writing centers on organizing and presenting historical material related to the Zizhi Tongjian, rearranging events from that chronological masterpiece along thematic lines so that readers can follow each episode from beginning to end. Work of this kind emphasizes selection, arrangement, and clear exposition of the text rather than personal argument, and his style is therefore plain, lucid, and source-based. These books suit general readers who want a systematic grasp of historical events while relying on a fairly complete body of texts, and they occupy a place among popular history publications. Since no reliable records of his dates, nationality, education, or official positions have been found, no inferences are made here.
