About the author

Yang Xianrang is a painter and art worker whose creative practice and writing span both painting and the narration of art history. Judging from the three works held in the collection, he traces Xu Beihong's artistic path and historical position in New People and Xu Beihong, while recalling his own explorations in two media—color painting and printmaking—in Light and Color: My Path in Color Painting and Knife and Wood: My Path in Printmaking. Both books belong to a collected-works series, so personal experience and reflections on creation are interwoven. His works are commonly classified under history, theory, and art, allowing readers to encounter both commentary on modern Chinese art figures and a practitioner's concrete understanding of color, knife, wood, and pictorial language. Public information is limited, and his birth and death dates, nationality, and educational background are unknown; from the three available works, however, he focuses on artistic practice itself, writing in a plain style from the perspective of a first-hand observer.
