Yang Dongfang: public information about his life and nationality is limited, and he is known only for one work, Yilin Zhengyin (The True Seal of the Medical Forest), which is listed among medical titles. In this book the author focuses on combining medical theory with clinical practice. Its prose is built on traditional medical terminology, clearly organized, and emphasizes the relationship between medical principles and prescriptions, reflecting a practical and rigorous approach to writing. Because only this one work is extant, it is difficult to sketch his scholarly background, the circumstances of composition, or the full range of his writings, and hard to judge how widely the book circulated in medical circles of its time. Even so, as direct material for understanding Yang Dongfang's medical thought, Yilin Zhengyin remains a reference text for researchers examining traditional medical literature.
