About the author

Li Cheng was born in Chongqing in March 1953 and is a professor at the College of Literature, Sichuan Normal University, where he also served as dean. He has been vice president of the Chinese Qu Yuan Society. His research focuses on pre-Qin culture and literature, Bashu culture, and popular literature. He is the author of studies such as A Restricted View of the Literary Mind in the Chu Ci and A Preliminary Discussion of Bashu Myths and Legends, and editor-in-chief of the National Studies Mini-Encyclopedia series. Four of his works are included here, spanning literary appreciation, social culture, art, and architecture: an annotated edition of the Chu Ci, a regional environmental history of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area, and practical hand-drawing tutorials and line sketches for landscape design. His writing thus moves between scholarship and popularization, grounded in source texts while attentive to readers' understanding.
