About the author

Li Jingwei (1929–2026) was a renowned Chinese historian of medicine and a senior researcher at the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. He served as the founding director of the Institute of Chinese Medical History and Literature and the first curator of the Museum of Chinese Medical History. Born in Xianyang, Shaanxi, in 1929, he graduated from Xi'an Medical College in 1955 and later studied medical history under Chen Bangxian. He chief-edited major works including the General History of Chinese Medicine and the Grand Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine. His representative works, A History of Chinese Medical Thought and A Brief History of Medical Exchange Between China and Foreign Countries, both belong to the field of medical history: the former traces the development of Chinese medical thought, while the latter examines exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign medicine, reflecting his emphasis on historical sources and clear organization. Two of his works are included in this catalog, commonly classified under Medicine. Li Jingwei passed away in Beijing on October 6, 2026.
