About the author

Li Sen, born on November 6, 1966 in Tengchong, Yunnan, is a contemporary poet and scholar. He graduated from the Department of Chinese at Yunnan University in 1988 and stayed on to teach there. He has served as dean of the School of Art and Design and of the School of Chinese Language and Literature at Yunnan University, and is now a professor and doctoral supervisor at the university and director of its Institute of Contemporary Chinese Literature and Art. He is a member of the "They" poetry group and the founder of the art-philosophy theory known as "language drift." Six of his works are included here, spanning literary theory and appreciation, travel essays, and management practice, including Eighteen Lectures on Modern Western Literature, Shadows on the Canvas (revised edition), The Lie of Aesthetics, Among All the Scenery, I Like You Best, Process Management, and The Art of Language. His writing combines scholarly reflection with lyrical sensitivity: his literary studies probe ideas and forms with sharp, questioning prose, while his travel and personal essays draw poetry from everyday landscapes in a warm and gentle voice.
