李延

Li Yan (1942–2022), a native of Fujin, Heilongjiang, was a nationally renowned physician of traditional Chinese medicine and served as professor and chief physician at the First Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine. He devoted himself over the years to clinical practice and teaching in TCM, and was especially known for his skilled use of classical formulas, grounding his prescriptions in the classics while adapting them flexibly to individual patterns of illness. Two of his works are included here: Selected Clinical Case Records of Li Yan presents diagnostic reasoning and prescribing experience through concrete cases, while Uncovering the Subtleties of Classical Formulas offers textual analysis and exposition of classical formulas. One focuses on clinical records, the other on classical scholarship, and together they complement each other, serving clinicians and students of classical formulas alike. Publicly available information about the details of his life is limited, so this note is confined to the facts known.
