About the author

Zhu Zhenwu, born in 1963, is a Chinese translator and scholar. He is a second-tier professor and doctoral supervisor at Shanghai Normal University, director of its Research Center for Foreign Literature, and a member of the China Writers Association. Long engaged in the study and translation of foreign literature, he is the principal translator of Dan Brown's novels, including The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, and leads a major National Social Science Fund project on the history of African English literature. In translation theory he has proposed the idea of a balance between domestication and foreignization. His works available here span world history, literary appreciation and inspirational growth, ranging from translations of Hendrik Willem van Loon's classic trilogy to studies of how sinologists in the English-speaking world write about Chinese stories, along with lectures on American literature under the new liberal arts approach and collections of model English readings, combining scholarly depth with readability.
