About the author

John Chu (Chinese name Zhu Zhongyi) is an American science fiction writer and translator of Chinese descent, born in Taiwan. He holds a doctorate in computer engineering and works as a microprocessor architect. Active in both writing and translation, he won the 2014 Hugo Award for Best Short Story for "The Water That Falls on You from Nowhere," and has also received the Nebula and Locus Awards, giving him visible presence in contemporary exchanges between Chinese-language and English-language science fiction. As a translator, he has rendered Liu Cixin's works for a bilingual Chinese-English young-adult science fiction classics series, including "The Micro Era," "With Her Eyes," "Earth Cannon," and "Full-Spectrum Barrage Jamming." Four of his works are held in this database, all in the science fiction category. His translations build a bridge between the Chinese originals and English-language readers, presenting these texts bilingually for young readers to compare side by side.
