Shi Yin is an author about whom limited public information is available; her nationality, dates of birth and death, and English name are not clearly recorded. Seven works are known under her name, including Day Song Xiaozhaimen, The Elder Maid of the Shen Household, Senior Brother Is a Beauty, The Escape from Marriage (parts one and two, plus a combined edition), and The Maid's Scheme. Her works are commonly grouped under time-travel and alternate-history fiction, social fiction, and young adult literature. Judging from the titles and categories, she often draws on ancient or invented settings, building her narratives around household affairs, questions of status, and choices about love and marriage, with a lighter tone reminiscent of young adult fiction. Her output is still modest and her themes are fairly concentrated, making her of interest to readers who enjoy ancient alternate-history settings and stories of women coming of age.
