About the author

Zhang Yisan was born in Heze, Shandong, in 1965. He holds a doctorate in literature and is a professor at the School of Literature, Qufu Normal University, where he supervises master's students in Chinese philology. He is also a member of the Chinese Society for Exegesis and has long engaged in research on the history of the Chinese language. His scholarship is grounded in textual collation and the philological study of language and characters; he has collated several volumes of the Dianshizhai Pictorial, published by China Wenshi Press, and has devoted considerable effort to modern pictorial documents. Three of his works are held in this collection—A Crane Congratulating on Longevity, First Sounds of Success, and Painted Boats on the Lu River—all classified under art. Their subjects draw on traditional auspicious motifs and local scenery, with an elegant tone that combines documentary interest with visual appeal. Given the limited public information available, his life and creative output are known mainly through these works.
