About the author

Zhang Jiehong, born in 1960 in Jiangyin, Jiangsu, holds a doctorate in archaeology from the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and is a senior appraiser of art works. He has long engaged in research on history, cultural relics, and literature and art. In recent years he has extended his scholarly background in history and textual research into the field of popular health writing, co-authoring with Yan Zhonghao such books as Medical Talks on Dream of the Red Chamber, Medical Readings of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Health Wisdom in the Analects, and A Health Book for Parents. Drawing on medical and health-preserving details in classical novels and canonical texts, these works combine literary appreciation with everyday medical knowledge in plain language, aimed at general readers, especially middle-aged and older people; they fall under literary appreciation, medicine and health in the library's categories. Public information about his personal career and academic output is limited, but these works reflect his cross-disciplinary writing between literature, history and medicine.
