张新刚

Zhang Xingang, about whom limited public information is available, appears from his existing works to be an author focused on classical Western political thought and the popularization of philosophy. His works fall roughly into two categories: more scholarly monographs such as Friendship Community: A Study of Ancient Greek Political Thought and Political Theology, which examine ancient Greek political ideas and questions of political theology; and general-audience introductions, including the Ancient Greek Thought General Education Course volumes on Herodotus and on Thucydides, as well as To Love This World and Becoming a More Rational Person: Philosophy Begins with Wonder. These works engage closely with classical Greek historiography and philosophy, combining close reading of texts with an overview of intellectual context, and tend to guide readers into the primary sources in a course-like, explanatory manner, giving him a readership in the fields of history and philosophy.
