About the author

Public biographical information on Zhang Bowei is currently limited. Judging from the nine works held in the collection, his writing and research center on two interrelated fields. On the one hand, he has long attended to the history of classical Chinese literary criticism and poetry, authorship of Studies in the Methods of Classical Chinese Literary Criticism and A Brief History of Chinese Poetry, Lyrics, and Song, which trace the internal logic of traditional literary theory through the lens of critical method. On the other hand, he is devoted to the collation and study of Chinese texts preserved abroad, having edited several volumes of the Journal of Research on Chinese Texts Abroad and written An Introduction to the Study of Chinese Texts Abroad (Revised and Expanded Edition), which offers introductory guidance to the field. Works such as Recollections from the Mulberry and Elm and Returning to Literary Studies further reflect his interest in documentary writing and in reflecting on literary scholarship. His writing is generally academic and documentary in character, suited to readers interested in classical literary theory, poetry, and Chinese texts abroad.
