Immanuel Kant

Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher, the founder of German classical philosophy, and one of the most important thinkers of the Enlightenment. Born in Königsberg, East Prussia, he never left the city and served as professor of logic and metaphysics at the University of Königsberg from 1770. His major works, the three Critiques—Critique of Pure Reason, Critique of Practical Reason, and Critique of Judgment—probe epistemology, ethics, and aesthetics respectively, and have had a profound influence on later philosophy. The library holds eight of his works, covering not only the three Critiques but also moral metaphysics, legal philosophy, the history of the universe, and his letters. Spanning philosophy, law, and popular science, his writings are rigorous in language and dense in argument, making him an essential starting point for understanding modern Western philosophy.
