About the author

Song Jue is an ancient author about whom little biographical information is available; his name appears in connection with the works related to the Litchi Manual (Lizhi Pu) held in this collection. His place of origin, dates of birth and death, identity, and personal experiences cannot be reliably established from public sources, so his writing can only be approached through the works he left behind. The collection contains two of his works, both centered on the Litchi Manual, including an edition with modern Chinese translation alongside the original text and another version. The lychee is a famous fruit of southern China, and across the dynasties there were specialized writings recording its varieties, producing regions, cultivation, and uses; Song Jue's Litchi Manual belongs to this cataloguing tradition. Such works typically emphasize direct observation and concrete local products, are clearly organized, and combine natural-historical knowledge with cultural interest, which is why they are classified under culture. Although the author's life remains obscure, this work is still a source for understanding traditional knowledge of the lychee and food culture, and can be consulted by readers and researchers.
