孙高亮

Sun Gaoliang is an author of classical popular fiction about whom little public information is available; his life, native place, and dates of birth and death cannot presently be verified. Judging from his extant works, he mainly adapted the deeds of the Ming dynasty official Yu Qian. The library holds four related works, including the two parts of The Loyal Life of Vice Minister Yu and The Complete Loyal Life of Vice Minister Yu, which shows that his writing centered on retelling and reorganizing the story of Yu Qian's loyalty and integrity. Such works belong to the biographical popular fiction of classical literature, combining historical narrative with the novelist's craft; their language is accessible, their plots compact, and they carry a clear tone of praising loyalty and righteousness, playing a part in spreading Yu Qian's image among ordinary readers. Because biographical material on the author is scarce, any judgment of his literary standing can rest only on the works themselves and awaits further documentary discovery.
