About the author

Sun Ge is an author about whom public information is limited: neither birth and death dates, nationality, nor educational background are clearly recorded. What is known is that five of her works are available, and that she has long been active in intellectual history, literary and cultural studies. Her writing is distinguished by close reading and speculation, and she tends to start from concrete texts and pursue universal questions. Her representative work The Paradox of Takeuchi Yoshimi examines the intellectual context of the Japanese thinker Takeuchi Yoshimi, while Beyond Despair and Hope: A Close Reading of Lu Xun's Wild Grass delves into Lu Xun's Wild Grass line by line, combining literary close reading with intellectual interpretation. Other works, including History and Man: Rethinking Universal Problems, Japan and China in Intellectual History, and the collection Seeking Errors, likewise reflect her sustained engagement with Sino-Japanese intellectual comparison and historical reflection. Her works are often classified as philosophy, literary appreciation, history and culture, and are aimed at readers who wish to think rather than to be given conclusions.
