孙昌武

Sun Changwu is an important scholar in the fields of classical Chinese literature and Tang dynasty cultural studies. Publicly available information about his life is limited, but the twelve works included here reveal the focus of his research: he has devoted himself both to case studies of Tang writers such as Han Yu and Liu Zongyuan and to broader examinations of the Tang ancient-prose movement, while also exploring such interdisciplinary areas as the cultural history of the Sui, Tang, and Five Dynasties and Buddhist literature. His writing balances scholarship with readability, carefully tracing literary phenomena and intellectual currents on the basis of solid textual evidence, and his style is plain and rigorous. His works span appreciation of classical poetry, interpretation of canonical texts, historical reading, and cultural studies, and have influenced both specialist readers and general enthusiasts of literature and history, offering reliable and accessible introductions to Tang literature and culture.
