About the author

Yao Fu, whose place of origin, dates of birth and death, and life details remain unknown, cannot be reliably documented because public sources are limited. Judging from the surviving works, he is the author of Qingxi Xiabi, of which four items are held in the collection, including different editions and the upper and lower volumes. The work is arranged in volumes and belongs to the note-style genre of miscellaneous jottings, which typically record observations, reading reflections, and ideas in a flexible, informal manner common among traditional men of letters. Classified under Eastern philosophy and classic works, the book touches on thought, scholarship, and classical discussion, showing a certain intellectual and reflective character. Owing to the scarcity of reliable historical sources, Yao Fu's life, scholarly background, and circle of associates cannot be described in detail; his influence rests mainly on the circulation and surviving editions of Qingxi Xiabi, through which readers may glimpse the style and concerns of his note writing.
