About the author

Tang Yue is an author about whose life relatively little is publicly known; available sources give no clear record of his birthplace, dates of birth and death, or educational background, so he can only be understood through his surviving works. Three of his works are held in the collection, the representative ones being Principles of Psychology and An Outline of the History of Western Psychology, usually classified under psychological research and history reading. The titles suggest that his writing spans both the introduction of psychological theory and a systematic survey of the history of Western psychology: on the one hand he explains basic psychological principles, and on the other he traces the development of Western psychological thought, offering Chinese readers a reasonably organized introduction and reference. Such works tend to emphasize clarity of concepts and coherence of historical fact, and are suitable for teaching and self-study. Although direct material about Tang Yue himself is limited, these works still reflect his sustained commitment to and contribution in spreading psychological knowledge and organizing the history of the discipline.
