About the author

Zhou Xirui is a scholar often mentioned in the field of overseas Chinese history studies. Public information about him is currently limited, and details of his education, positions, and life remain unclear. Even so, the three works included in our catalog reveal his research focus: The Origins of the Boxer Movement traces the social soil and popular context from which the Boxer movement emerged, while Reform and Revolution: The 1911 Revolution in Hunan and Hubei examines the political changes and social forces in those two provinces during the 1911 Revolution. A further collection in the Overseas China Studies series also includes related work. His writing usually begins with specific regions and grassroots society, values careful use of historical sources and clear tracing of events, and addresses readers of history and social-cultural works, offering solid reference for understanding the turmoil and transformation of modern China.
