Publicly available information about Zhou Xi is limited: his life and nationality remain unclear, and only two works can currently be confirmed under his name, the Gazetteer of Changhua County and the Collection of Radiant Light. Judging from these titles, Zhou Xi's writing follows two strands, local gazetteer compilation and personal literary collection. The Gazetteer of Changhua County belongs to the tradition of local histories, recording a region's geographical evolution, customs, notable figures, and institutions, which requires a compiler to have solid skills in organizing historical sources and presenting them coherently. The Collection of Radiant Light is closer to a personal anthology, reflecting the author's own expression in prose and thought. Taken together, the two works show that Zhou Xi valued both the preservation and arrangement of local documents and the keeping of his own writings. In common classifications, his works are placed under documentary literature and literary appreciation, suggesting that later readers regard his gazetteer as a documentary local record and his collection as having literary value worth reading. Because biographical material is scarce, his official career, circle of acquaintances, and the circumstances in which these works were compiled still await further study.
