周先慎

Zhou Xianshen: public information about him is limited, and his research and writings center mainly on classical Chinese literature. Five of his works are included here: Selected Annotations to Works of Classical Chinese Literature (Second Edition), The Thought and Art of Classical Fiction (Boya Literature Series), A Concise History of Chinese Literature (Second Edition), and two editions of Fifteen Lectures on Chinese Literature. These books show that his writing combines literary history, annotated selections, and literary appreciation; he offers textbook-style surveys for classroom and general education use as well as focused discussions of the intellectual content and artistic techniques of classical fiction. His work is often used for literary study and examination reference, and his approach values close reading of texts together with historical analysis. He has had a certain influence in popularizing knowledge of Chinese literature and guiding readers toward classical works.
