Wu Qian

Wu Qian, courtesy name Liuji, was a native of Shexian, Anhui, in the Qing dynasty. He served as an imperial physician during the Yongzheng and Qianlong reigns and held the post of Right Vice-Director of the Imperial Medical Academy. In 1739, the fourth year of the Qianlong reign, he was ordered to serve as chief compiler of the ninety-volume Yizong Jinjian (Golden Mirror of Medicine), completed in 1742 and designated as the Imperial Medical Academy's textbook from 1749 onward, leaving a lasting influence on the organization of Chinese medical literature and medical education. The library holds ten of his works, chiefly the three volumes of Yizong Jinjian, together with annotated editions such as the Revised Complete Book of Shanghan Lun and the Revised Complete Book of Jingui Yaolue. Public information on his early life and individual writings is limited, yet the extant works reveal his editorial approach of organizing medical texts and standardizing their format, clearly aimed at serving imperial medical education.
