吴敬所

Wu Jingsuo is an author in the field of Chinese classical texts and popular literature whose biographical details are relatively scarce: neither his birth and death years, native place, nor nationality are clearly recorded, and publicly available information is limited. Judging from the nine works held in the collection, his writing and compilation center on ancient romances, love stories, and miscellaneous records. Representative works include The Story of Liu Sheng Seeking Lotus, The Outer Biography of Zhao Feiyan, The Collection of Devoted Love, National Beauty and Heavenly Fragrance, The Record of the Dragon Meet at Orchid Pool, and The Elegant Gathering of Seeking Fragrance. These works often take talented scholars and beautiful women, court anecdotes, and romantic entanglements as their threads, with graceful narration and a language that carries the flavor of Ming and Qing popular reading materials, blending literary appreciation with historical miscellany. The collection classifies them under categories such as time-travel and alternate history, otherworldly continents, social sciences, literary appreciation, Eastern philosophy, and comprehensive biography, indicating that later readers have approached these texts from multiple perspectives. Overall, Wu Jingsuo's name has been transmitted mainly through the romances he compiled, while his personal life remains to be further verified.
