About the author

Yoshida Shuichi is a contemporary Japanese novelist. The Chinese book site currently carries three of his works, including Yokomichi Yonosuke and its sequel The Year I Couldn't Find a Job: A Sequel to Yokomichi Yonosuke, as well as a highly rated representative work. Because public information is limited, biographical details cannot be added here, yet the existing works already reveal his focus: he writes in a plain, delicate style about the everyday lives, job-hunting struggles and personal relationships of ordinary young people, conveying gentle humor and empathy within seemingly loose narratives. His works are usually categorized as foreign literature; his characters are approachable and believable, and his plots rely less on dramatic conflict than on dialogue and detail, which has earned him a steady reputation among readers and given Chinese readers a glimpse into the lives and emotions of contemporary urban youth in Japan.
