Ye Gui's dates, birthplace, and native place are not well documented in publicly available sources. Four of his works are held in the collection, all classed under medicine. Judging from the transmitted titles, his writings center on warm-heat disorders: Wenre Lun Shire Lun and Wenwen Lun Wenre Lun both bring together discussions of warm disease, damp-heat, and epidemic warm disease, showing his attention to pattern identification and treatment methods for externally contracted heat illnesses. Meishou Tang Fang'an Xuancun consists mainly of medical cases and formulas and leans toward records of clinical practice, while Ye Xuan Yiheng gathers medical discourses and reflects his commentary on and selection of medical theory. His writing tends to alternate discussions, cases, and formulas, in a concise style that stresses the reasoning of pattern identification and the rules of prescribing rather than elaborate exposition. These works are frequently cited in later literature on warm disease studies and have had some influence on the pattern-identification system and clinical approach to warm-heat disorders. Owing to limited historical sources, details of his life, scholarly lineage, and medical career cannot be reliably established and are not conjectured here.
